The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that forward Brendan Gallagher will miss at least six weesk with a fractured right thumb. Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme said that it is unlikely Gallagher will need surgery, but it's still too early to tell, and they have to wait for the swelling to go down.

Gallagher blocked a shot with his hand from rookie defenceman Alexander Romanov on Monday night against Edmonton. He left the game and did not return, with the Habs announcing the injury post-game.

Now that Montreal has placed Gallagher on LTIR, they have $3.75 million available to use in cap space, which is a bit of a silver lining ahead of the trade deadline on April 12th, although we're certain the team would rather have Gallagher back instead.

In 35 games this season, Gallagher has 23 points (14 G, 9 A), 16 penalty minutes, and is a +10.
