Sharks reporter leaks that the NHL re-did the Draft Lottery four times

The San Jose Sharks won the No. 1 overall pick in the recent NHL Draft Lottery, and now a reporter has leaked a very intriguing story about the process.

After much anticipation, the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery was a fairly straight forward process, with no teams moving up and everyone drafting exactly where they were expected. Ultimately, it was the San Jose Sharks with a 25% chance at landing the top spot that earned the right to draft Boston University's Macklin Celebrini in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Now, we've learned a bit more about what went on behind the scenes in the moments before the results were announced, including something that has never happened in the history of the NHL Draft Lottery.

"In the event that the same team won the first drawing and then also won the second drawing, it is already planned in the rules that another drawing must be done to determine a winner.

But this has never happened in the history of the league, which established a lottery in 1995. Yesterday, it happened not once but twice!"

What that means is, the Sharks not only won the first overall pick, but their number combination came out for the No. 2 overall pick, not once, but twice, forcing the NHL to re-do the second overall pick four times.

Obviously, the Sharks can't win twice, so it forced the NHL to continually re-do things until it was the Chicago Blackhawks that won the second overall pick, in a crazy situation that now leads us to June 28-29 and the NHL Draft.
