From the moment this season began, it became clear that Auston Matthews was ready to put up the biggest year of his career, and heading into the final game of the year, he was just one goal short of tallying 70, a feat that hasn't been seen since the early 1990's. Unfortunately, after Matthews fell short, Head Coach Sheldon Keefe spoke out about the chase, labeling it a distraction for his team.
Now, former NHLer turned media personality P.K. Subban has fired a shot at Keefe on social media, signalling that he has plenty of thoughts on the situation.
As mentioned in the replies to Subban's post, many fans have pointed out how labeling expectations as a distraction is an idiotic idea, as the Maple Leafs fans have higher expectations than anyone in the NHL.
Ultimately, Matthews chase for 70 goals should have been a driving force behind motivation for the team, but Keefe labeling it a distraction is an odd move, and like the fans, Subban certainly doesn't like the way that Keefe handled the situation.
