As you know, one of the most promising prospects in the Montreal Canadiens organization, Lane Hutson, officially made his NHL debut last night.

It was a moment eagerly anticipated by fans, especially following his simply remarkable performances in the NCAA.

Earning his first seconds in the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge uniform, the 20-year-old defenseman took the traditional solo lap, as his teammates let him skate alone for a few seconds before joining him for the warm-up period.

However, as is the case for many rookies playing their first NHL game, Lane Hutson did not wear his helmet, which is strictly forbidden by league rules. Indeed, aiming to increase player safety, Gary Bettman introduced this rule a few seasons ago, meaning that number 48 will face a $2500 fine from the commissioner.

In my opinion, this rule is a bit ridiculous, especially when it concerns a young rookie participating in this symbolic tradition in his first game. It's likely that some of the team's veterans will offer to pay the fine imposed by Gary Bettman.

Speaking of Lane Hutson, the Michigan-native defenseman wasted no time impressing the crowd. During his second career shift, he mocked JT Compher at the opponent's blue line to create space for a shot on goal. Positioned in the slot, Brendan Gallagher grabbed the rebound to score his 14th goal of the season, allowing Lane Hutson to earn his very first point with the Montreal Canadiens.

It was truly refreshing to see a CH prospect with such offensive skills. Obviously, there are some gaps that will need to be improved, which is entirely normal for a player of his age, but his talent in the offensive zone is undeniable. His footwork and puck handling are very quick, making him nearly impossible to keep track of. Moreover, although some observers criticized his skating, he clearly demonstrated that he can compete with other NHL players.

Without a doubt, the Tricolore has a very promising young player on their hands, and we are eager to see what the future holds for him!
