At 38 years old, Alex Goligoski, the veteran Minnesota Wild defenseman can already be considered a senior citizen in the pro hockey world. He is also finishing up his final year of his contract, fans are wondering if Goligoski is considering retirement.
Minnesota is currently sitting at 6th place in the Central Division, and are only 9 points away from a shot at the 2024 NHL Playoffs, many fans have already counted them out of the run for the Playoffs. Goligoski recently addressed the upcoming playoffs, stating:
«As the games start building up, you never really know, you're always hoping you can get in.
«You just try not to think about it.»
Goligoski's most recent game was the first he has played in since February 7. He has gotten 9 assists in his 32 games played this season. In a recent interview he discussed his future in the NHL:
«You're part of the team, you want to see the team do well and you want to be part of it. If you're not playing, you root for the guys. Eventually, who knows, you'll get back in there.»
«I think you stay in it while you're in it, you start asking questions later. We'll see how everything goes here, get to the offseason, see how you feel and go from there. I honestly haven't really thought about it too much.»
Goligoski has scored 87 goals with 387 assists throughout his 1074 games played during his career. He has played for the Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, Arizona Coyotes, and most recently, the Minnesota Wild. Goligoski has had an impressive NHL career, but fans are wondering if he really is ready for retirement.
