It was a bit of a shock a few days ago when it was announced that Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis would be away from the team for an undetermined amount of time. Now, we have our first comments from the Habs' General Manager on the situation.
Habs GM Addresses Absence of Head Coach Martin St. Louis
Kent Hughes met with members of the media today in Montreal, and said St. Louis is being given as much space as he needs to deal with whatever he's dealing with. Outside of that, not much can be said in public.
"Kent Hughes says they've left Martin St. Louis space with his family, hoping that everything is ok. Understandably can't say much more about the situation out of respect for the family's privacy.

St. Louis has three sons, and it was mentioned that one of them is going through something. However, it's not clear which one or what he and his family are dealing with. One of them, Lucas St. Louis, has remained in the lineup for the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Whatever is happening, we wish St. Louis, and his family. Hopefully he can get back behind the bench soon doing what he loves. Family first, as always.
After a prolific playing career, St. Louis was named head coach of the Montreal Canadiens in 2022 following the firing of Dominique Ducharme. St. Louis had no previous experience coaching at a high level.
