A new report from an NHL source has reported that a major deadline could go down between the New York Rangers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks would send a veteran to the Rangers to address one of the Rangers' biggest needs.

Rangers Injury Trouble Leads To Potentially Massive Deadline Deal

With the trade deadline fast approaching several teams are expected to address big-time needs within their team. One of the teams expected to be most active is the New York Rangers. The Rangers have a massive hole left by the recurring injuries to Filip Chytil.

With Chytil done for the season, many expect the New York Rangers to aggressively pursue a top-six center. In this pursuit, a report has linked the Rangers to the struggling and likely selling Chicago Blackhawks.

Rangers And Blackhawks Linked In Reported Deadline Deal

A recent report by The Hockey News has sparked some conversation between the fanbases of the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. A report by Matthew Mugno of The Hockey News has suggested that current Chicago Blackhawk center Tyler Johnson could be a perfect fit.

Johnson this season has 13 points in 35 games on the lowly Blackhawks but has shown he can handle middle-six minutes. The roadblock begins when looking at Johnson's five-million-dollar cap hit. The Rangers would likely need to overpay for Johnson to get the Blackhawks to retain salary.

Tyler Johnson likely won't be the first choice for the Rangers heading into the trade deadline. However, if elite forward options continue to dry up heading into the deadline the Rangers might be forced to make a deal or lose out on that upgrade completely.
