Ahead of their scrimmage tonight, the Montreal Canadiens announced that they've placed nine players on waivers.

Those players are Brandon Baddock, Alex Belzile, Joseph Blandisi, Laurent Dauphin, Jordan Weal, Noah Juulsen, Gustav Olofsson, Xavier Ouellet and Charlie Lindgren.

Whether Jordan Weal gets claimed by another team, or if he clears waivers, his cap hit will be reduced by $1.075 million. The Canadiens currently sit $1,116,309 million over the cap, and will have to manage the remaining $41,309 in order to be cap compliant by January 12th at 5pm ET.

The most interesting name on the waiver wire for Montreal might be Noah Juulsen. The 23-year-old has been limited to just 37 games between the Canadiens and their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, since the beginning of the 2018-19 season due to a facial fracture injury.

The Canadiens will open the 2020-21 season on Wednesday night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs. Puck drop is just after 7pm ET/4pm PT.
