Tony DeAngelo's NHL career has been relatively short so far, but it has sure had it's fair share of controversy. The latest involves DeAngelo throwing a tantrum over Twitter suspending US President Donald Trump's Twitter account, something the defenceman seemed to take personally. After removing himself from Twitter on Friday, DeAngelo took to his Instagram account to announce he would be shutting down all of his social media and moving over to Parler if and when the network is back online.
"If they let Parler back up at some point, I will be on Parler," said DeAngelo. "Until then, I will not be using social media apps."
Parler was removed from Apple and Google app stores after the network was used heavily by those who carried out the attempted insurrection on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Both entities have told Parler to radically adjust its moderation or face a permanent ban. As for DeAngelo's team, the New York Rangers, it appears the issue has been dealt with privately.
"I asked NYR for a response to Tony DeAngelo's announcement of his exit from Twitter and preference for Parler, a platform that was reportedly used to plan Wednesday's storming of the Capitol," said New York Post reporter Mollie Walker. «Any discussions we have with Tony will be kept private," they told her.
"[Rangers coach] David Quinn says the NYR have addressed the Tony DeAngelo incident internally," Walker later tweeted.
DeAngelo has had his Twitter account suspended at least twice. He has also been talked to by the Rangers on at least a couple of occasions over things he has posted and one has to wonder if it didn't happen again this time. Back in December of 2019, he was scratched for two games by the team for something coach Quinn would only call "maturity issues" at the time.
