The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced an important signing for the club on Wednesday, inking winger Oliver Bjorkstrand to a 5-year extension worth $27M, a $5.4M AAV, keeping him in the fold through 2025-26.
"Oliver is a gifted player that has shown steady improvement throughout career to this point and we couldn't be happier that he will be a Blue Jacket for a very long time," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen." "He is a dangerous offensive player, and we believe he will be an even more impactful player for us as he continues to develop and mature in this league."
The 25-year-old is coming off of back-to-back 20-goal seasons after scoring 21 goals in just 49 appearances for Columbus in 2019-20. His single season high of 23 goals came during the 2018-19 season, though it had taken him 77 games to reach that total, showing his evolution from support player to legit scoring threat in a very short period of time.
Bjorkstrand, a third round draft pick in 2013 (89th overall), has registered 65 goals and 133 points over 246 career NHL games.
