Auston Matthews Gets Brutally Honest After Humiliating Loss to the Sabres

The Leafs are supposed to be one of the contenders for the Stanley Cup this season, yet they just had a major loss against the Sabres. Auston Matthews was not impressed.

Matthews Calls Leafs Play Embarrassing Against the Sabres Last Night

It's safe to say the Toronto Maple Leafs did not show up for last night's game, as they were trounced by the Buffalo Sabres from the get-go. While the Leafs did try and keep things competitive for the first 10 minutes, they quickly faded and let the game get away, eventually losing 9-3.

After the game Auston Matthews had some choice words for his teammates, calling the game one of the most embarrassing he has played in.

"Embarrassing is probably the right word to use from start to finish, top to bottom, not nearly good enough. Just a bad hockey game from our team. Collectively, probably one of the worst games since I have been here. It's hard to pinpoint one thing. I think it was all just disappointing."

Matthews Couldn't Will His Team to Victory Despite Incredible Scoring Pace

In some games, Auston Matthews can almost win single-handedly, willing the Leafs to victory through his incredible goal-scoring talents. This year, Matthews is on an incredible goal-scoring pace, scoring almost a quarter of the Leafs goals this season.

Clearly, the Leafs need to work their roster out if they want to be contenders this year, as they still have some major gaps in the lineup.
