Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the New York Islanders have signed veteran forward Matt Martin to a four-year contract extension, which will kick in for the 2020-21 season.

The average annual value of his contract is not yet known, but multiple reports have said the entire deal is roughly $6 million, which works out to $1.5 million per season. Martin, 31, has spent eight of his ten NHL seasons with the Islanders. He was with them for his first six seasons before signing a four-year deal as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs, however was traded back to the Islanders just two years into the contract.

The term of this contract is a little strange given that Martin is strictly a fourth line player and is in his thirties. He has been a fantastic Islander throughout his career however and has been a part of what many consider to be the best fourth line in the entire league. Last season saw him post five goals and eight points in 55 regular season games, along with five goals and six points in 22 playoff contests.
