This season, the Central division has been extremely competitive, with the Chicago Blackhawks being the only team not in contention for a postseason berth. As of right now, all teams have played at least 30 games, with 10 points separating first and seventh in the division.

With the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars holding top and second place with 40 points apiece, the Winnipeg Jets are right in the thick of things, only one point behind. There are rumors that scouts from the Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers attend a lot of games together.

The Jets are looking for help and playing well to boot

It is no secret the Winnipeg Jets would like to add to the line up, especially up front with with top sniper Kyle Connor out at least until the end of January. In addition to finding a new home for Nate Schmidt, who has been scratched a lot lately, the organization might be looking to add a defenseman.

The Jets are playing considerably better than many people had predicted throughout the off-season, especially in light of the trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Los Angeles Kings. As of now, they have an 18-9-3 record. With Alex Iaffalo fitting in on every line he has played, Gabe Vilardi (now healthy) playing brilliantly on the top line and having as many goals as Dubois in fewer games, and Rasmus Kupari starting strong but missing most of the season due to injury, that deal looks to be a home run for Winnipeg.

Flyers and Jets are a match in many aspects

The Jets have been scouting a lot of Flyers games, and the Flyers have been doing the same with Winnipeg.

Marc Staal, Nick Seeler, or Sean Walker are the three UFA defenseman who are most likely to be dealt from the Flyers. Since joining the Flyers in the Cal Petersen salary-cap relief trade, Sean Walker has elevated his game to a new level, making him the most expensive of the group.

Morgan Frost, who has been in Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella's dog house quite a bit this season, is a low-key name that the Jets might be considering. He would add scoring depth to the team's top six and centre positions.
