Peter Forsberg voted top player in WJC history by panel of international World Juniors experts

With the World Junior Championship fast approaching, TSN has put together a list of the absolute best WJC performers in tournament history, as voted on by 12 international World Juniors experts. The lost was compiled as a way to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the highly anticipated tournament.

Prior to looking at the numbers, I'm sure most would have assumed that Wayne Gretzky would be at the top of the list, due to his massive 6-point roasting of the Czechs on Christmas Day in 1978. While "The Great One" finished with a remarkable 17 points in just 6 games in the tournament (the only appearance of his young career), he just was not able to sneak into the top 3, surprisingly.

Of course, there were a few prime candidates for the top spot, but none more deserving that "Foppa" himself, Peter Forsberg - and how could anyone argue with that? After all, Forsberg holds the record for most single tournament points with 31 in 1993, which included his infamous 10-point performance against Japan. He also holds the record for most points in tournament history with 42 points in just 14 games, and the record for most assists with 32 - which is 10 higher than his closest competitor.

The #2 and #3 spots are held by forward Pavel Bure (27 goals and 39 points in 21 games) and defenseman Viacheslav Fetisov (6 goals and 15 points in 14 games), respectively.
