The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenceman Mikhail Sergachev to a three-year contract extension, the defending Stanley Cup champs announced Monday. The contract will carry an annual average value of $4.8 million.

Sergachev, a 2016 first-round pick (9th overall), joined the Lightning in June 2017 after being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens for forward Jonathan Drouin and a conditional 2018 sixth-round pick.

The 22-year-old has been a stud on Tampa's backend over the past three seasons, recording 106 points (25 goals, 81 assists) in 224 games, and he played a key role in helping the Lightning capture their second Stanley Cup in franchise history this past September, chipping in with three goals and 10 points.
