Earlier this week, we covered the story of a hobby shop in Quebec offering a high price for an Alexis Lafreniere high gloss 'Young Guns' rookie card. The store was offering $10,000 to anyone who found the insert. A Quebec man has managed to get his hands on one and has sold it for an even higher price than the store was offering.

Marco Varin of Quebec purchased five boxes of Upper Deck Series 1 hockey cards earlier this week. After his first four boxes, he already had several copies of the regular Young Guns Lafreniere rookie card, estimated to be worth around $400 each. However, on his fifth box, he landed the high gloss version, of which there are just 10 in the entire world. After sending out some emails, he had someone offer him a whopping $13,000 for the rarity.

Varin said he had felt so lucky after the first four boxes of cards that he offered the sell the fifth to a friend, who rejected the offer. That was extremely unfortunate for the friend, and a huge twist of fate for Varin.

The card was purchased by CF31 Cartes Sportives . They dispatched a team of experts to analyze the card, giving it a score of 9.5 out of 10 for quality. With that, the $13,000 offer was made and the rest is history.
