"Welcome to Canada, Honey and Maple!" Holtby's wife Brandi Tweeted late Friday afternoon. "Huge shout out to [U.S. Fish and Wildlife] for working so hard for us! Thank you for everyone's concern. NOW you may laugh at the image of Braden being stuck at the border with a tortoise under each arm."
Holtby had been trying to make it into Canada since Wednesday afternoon. According to his wife, the couple was not aware he needed an export permit for the American side of the border. Brandi explained that the import permit for the Canadian side had already been filled out.
Holtby signed a two-year, $8.6 million contract with the Canucks in October after spending his entire career with the Washington Capitals up until now.
