A few teams announced they were placing players on waivers in the last few minutes.
The Penguins were the most active team, placing five players up for grabs, including a surprising defenseman.
Kyle Dubas and the Penguins Place Promising Defenseman on Waivers
Pittsburgh announced that they placed
Ty Smith on waivers.
Per Elliotte Friedman:
"Pittsburgh has
Ty Smith on waivers today."
Smith was traded last year from New Jersey in exchange for
John Marino and it looks like he hasn't been able to convince the new management in Pittsburgh that he was essential to the team's success.
However, the Pens' defensive line is stacked. With the recent additions of
Erik Karlsson and
Ryan Graves, it was never going to be easy to make the lineup of a team with major Stanley Cup aspirations.
The Penguins also placed
Taylor Fedun,
Jonathan Gruden,
Xavier Ouellet,
Rem Pitlick, and
Ty Smith on waivers.
