Ducks' Best Players Still Without Contracts
The Anaheim Ducks' situation isn't ideal. While they did manage to acquire some good players this summer, they failed to re-sign their best players:
Trevor Zegras and
Jamie Drysdale.
As the faces of the franchise, keeping them in Anaheim (and happy) is essential. Without them, it would take much longer to see the Ducks in the playoffs. Fans of the team don't want to have to wait five more years for their team to win, just when things were starting to get better.
Now, a new development has the fans worried.
Drysdale Spotted Training in Toronto During Training Camp
The young star defenseman was seen at the Toronto Metropolitan University Men's Hockey Team's practice facilities.
This doesn't mean that a deal won't happen, but this gesture indicates that things aren't going well between the franchise and the player. RFAs often train elsewhere during training camps to put pressure on their team.
Unfortunately, missing even small parts of the training camp is hard on players, who will need to catch up with the rest of the group.
That means that even if the deal happens soon, which is unlikely, the damage is already done.
This is poor management by the general manager of the Ducks, Patrick Verbeek. He failed to do the most important thing he had to all summer.
Let's hope this situation resolves itself quickly.
