Blockbuster William Nylander Trade To A Maple Leaf Rival: Toronto Analyst Proposes That Young Goalscorer Cole Caufield May Be Involved

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a difficult situation with William Nylander. He is entering the final year of his contract without an extension. This has led to a countless number of trade rumors. Today another in which William Nylander lands with another Canadian Franchise.

William Nylander has entrenched himself as a part of the core four for the Maple Leafs. He has been a perfect compliment to their high-powered offensive centers in the top six. However, his contract situation is making fans explore the possibility of Nylander moving on to his next team.

A few teams have been linked to Nylander already. The likes of Calgary and the Rangers have reportedly kicked the tires on Nylander. Now a Toronto media personality has suggested a blockbuster trade that would land William Nylander in Montreal with the Canadiens.

In this mock trade journalist Michael Traikos has suggested William Nylander could end up in Montreal. In return, Toronto would get some of Montreal's biggest stars.

In this scenario, the Canadiens go all in for a star. They potentially give up former number one overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky, young sniper Cole Caufield, and one of their brightest young players on defense Kaiden Guhle. While all three of these players wouldn't likely be needed all are key parts of the current core.

This trade is highly unlikely for both sides at the current moment. The Maple Leafs are looking for players who can contribute at their peak value immediately not development projects.

On the flipside the Canadiens have a bright future but aren't quite ready to compete yet so trading away some of their best future assets for a player in his prime doesn't quite make the most sense.

While not entirely impossible as we have seen wild trades in the NHL in the past this one is highly unlikely. Both teams likely come away unhappy and look for other options with the assets they have.
