When Logan Mailloux was drafted 31st overall in 2021, it came with a serious history. The Canadiens move on from him in this mock trade.
Mailloux Sent to Winnipeg
Marc Bergevin's last straw as GM of the Montreal Canadiens was drafting Logan Mailloux, who had renounced himself from the 2021 draft following serious misconduct in Sweden.
Now, Mailloux, who has graduated from juniors and is ready for the pros, will be a contentious topic for the Canadiens organization. Many fans dislike Mailloux both for his off-ice issues and his on-ice issues.
The Canadiens organization puts an emphasis on high-end hockey IQ, and Mailloux severely lacks in that department. The Winnipeg Jets, however, are a skill-first team, and could be a great home for the toolsy Mailloux.
Possible Win for Both Sides
They also own an incredibly important asset for the Canadiens, their 2024 2nd round pick. If the Canadiens were to offer sheet a player this summer, such as Alexis Lafreniere in New York, they would need their second rounder. This trade would give the Jets a prospect closer to the NHL as they start their retool, and give the Canadiens the opportunity to maximize their asset with an offer sheet.
The Canadiens would also give up Mike Hoffman at 50% retained salary, which could ass some goal-scoring the Jets roster.
