Matvei Michkov became a Philadelphia Flyer last Wednesday, which shocked much of the hockey world. The Russian phenom was hailed as a top-three talent in the 2023 draft class, but fell due to his existing contract in Russia, as well as what some perceived as "attitude issues".
Michkov's Teammate Speaks Out
According to former NHLer Ray Whitney, a teammate of Michkov's in Russia had no nice things to say about the young sniper. Apparently, Michkov's attitude has been an issue for some time.
"He doesn't listen to anything the veterans tell him, he doesn't listen to the coaches, he doesn't hesitate to laugh at them and send them away. He only does what he wants.
We really tried to give him a chance and understand him, but we realized he's just a piece of s-h-i-t." - Anonymous Teammate

These are some pretty serious allegations, and if they're true, would explain why so many teams passed on the young star.
Credibility
It's important to take reports like this with a grain of salt, especially if the source is anonymous. Many people who interacted with Matvei on draft day noted how kind and excited the young man was, and reports from his draft interviews indicated that he was respectful and polite in his interviews.
While the allegations could be true, we wouldn't put too much faith in the credibility of these reports.
