The trade, which reportedly involved the St. Louis Blues and the Philadelphia Flyers, would have involved Kevin Hayes and Travis Sanheim going to St. Louis.
But it was a player on the Blues who held the trade up, using his trade protection,
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, it was Torey Krug who nixed the trade using his no-trade clause.
Torey Krug is a veteran defenseman who has been with the Blues since the 2019-2020 season. He currently carries a cap hit of $6.5 million. He has four more years left on his deal.
This is an interesting move as both teams want to get this trade done. But until they can convince Krug to waive his no-trade clause, or make a new deal, they are stuck.
That's the risk of giving player no trade clauses in their deal, it can come back to bite the team in a big way.
