After an injury-riddled season, Monahan was set to hit the free agent market.
Coming off a deal that paid him $6.375-million annually, he likely still could have gotten a lot of money in the tight free agency.
Instead, he has come to terms on a one-year, $1.985-million deal with the Habs.
This is a low-risk, high-reward deal for Montreal, as if he does do well he could fetch a massive return in trade.
We will see how this all plays out.
