While it was almost certain that Pierre Luc-Dubois wouldn't stay in Winnipeg, and almost equally unlikely that Mark Scheifele wouldn't renew, there was still hope for Vezina-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
Hellebuyck, who almost singlehandedly got the jets into the playoffs this season, could very well be the most important player on the team.
He has reportedly made it clear to management that he won't re-sign.
He carries enormous value for a trade, but sending him elsewhere will force the Jets into a rebuild, and leave them on the outside looking in for the playoffs.
Thus, Jets management is left with a difficult decision - compete for one more year and lose their core for nothing, or sell them off and begin a rebuild.
It will be very interesting to see which route they take.
