Auston Matthews Now Involved in a Serious Investigation by the NHLPA
The Maple Leafs just can't seem to stay out of controversy and this may be one of the biggest ones in the history of the NHL.
Matthews Now Involved in a Serious Investigation by the NHLPA
Earlier today the NHLPA announced they were going to conduct an investigation that could be league altering.
Kyle Dubas will be investigated for a potential violation of the NHLPA's rules. This stems from Dubas' agent and Matthews' agent working for the same firm, Wasserman.
While on the surface it seems like nothing was too wrong, there could be a major scandal about to break. That would be if Dubas is found guilty after this investigation.
If Dubas were to have given Matthews special treatment, like an expensive contract that walked him directly to unrestricted free agency, in exchange for something to benefit himself or somebody he cares about, like his agent Chris Armstrong getting a promotion, then there could have been a serious violation the league would need to look into.
Now the chances of this being the case are quite slim but still not zero. The NHLPAs investigation will be critical towards the future of the league.
What Would Happen if Dubas Is Found Guilty?
First off, Dubas and all parties involved could be arrested. Next, the Leafs would need to look into getting compensation from the league. Whether that be extra cap relief or picks, it will be a unique situation.
This type of violation, if found guilty will shape the league into something we may not recognize.
Hopefully for Dubas and all parties involved, it is nothing and they followed the rules but you can never rule anything out in the NHL.
