After plenty of speculation that Auston Matthews
was playing inured in the post season, we now have confirmation that he was. And, further news should be worrisome for fans.
According to TSN Insider Chris Johnston, he knows for sure Matthews was playing injured in the playoffs, and the star forward may need another surgical procedure over the summer.
"I know for a fact that he was injured. And I know that they are still working out his treatment plan and I don't think surgery is totally off the table." - Chris Johnston
Matthews had a good showing in the first round against Tampa Bay, but dropped off the map completely during the series against Florida. There's no word on whether the possible surgery would be on his wrist. Matthews has already had a procedure done there, and admitted during the regular season that it had impacted his performance, although he told reporters at the time that he was feeling much better and would be 100 percent for the playoffs. Who knows what happened between then and round 2. That said, another procedure on the same wrist is a cause for concern. Matthews has also dealt with some shoulder issues over the past few seasons.
