To anyone who has followed the NHL under Gary Bettman, this is wholly unsurprising.
According to Ali Murji, Nike never even submitted a bid for the NHL's jersey rights, which were given to Fanatics on Tuesday - much to the chagrin of fans. Per Murji's report, Nike felt that profit margins wouldn't make the juice worth the squeeze.
Nike holds the uniform rights to the NFL, NBA, and MLB, and they also supply the uniforms for the top 25-ranked IIHF teams. Meaning, Nike isn't opposed to working in hockey; they just don't want to do business with the NHL.
YIKES
Another feather in Gary Bettman's otherwise sterling cap.
