The Boston Bruins will take on the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night and can become the first team with an 'X' beside their name in the standings if any of the following scenarios occur.

- Boston wins in any fashion + New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres all lose in regulation.

Boston currently sits first in the NHL standings with a record of 49-8-5 through 62 games, scoring 237 goals and allowing only 132 so far this season. If the Bruins manage to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight, they'll be tied for the second-quickest team to clinch a spot in NHL history after the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings, who did so in 59 games.
