A player in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) was tossed from a game Saturday after shoving an official. Jiri Smejkal, who played in the Western Hockey League for three seasons but was never drafted into the NHL, was getting a penalty for charging near the end of a second period of a game between Oskarshamn and Rögle when he decided to have some words with officials and some opponents before he left the ice. A linesman came over to him to direct him to the box, but Smejkal gave him a dismissive shove and kept on jaw-jacking. That's when some other officials came over the calm him down. He'd end up with the original two for charging, as well as a game misconduct for abuse of an official. Given past rulings from the SHL, it would be very surprising if Smejkal didn't get at least a game or two suspension for his actions. It wasn't necessarily a hard push, but there was no one else around so it certainly can't be dubbed accidental. Smejkal knew what he was doing.
