Leafs give Teemu Kivihalme a contract extension

While he has yet to play any games in the NHL, Teemu Kivihalme has impressed the Toronto Maple Leafs enough to keep him in their ranks. The team has announced that the 25-year-old has been given a two-year, two-way contract extension.

Kivihalme, recorded four goals and 14 assists for 18 points with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) in 2019-20. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs organization in 2019, the Cloquet, Minnesota native played a pair of seasons with Kärpät (Liiga), skating in 104 regular season games and recording 50 points (13 goals, 37 assists). In 34 playoff games with Kärpät, he recorded four goals and five assists, winning an SM-liiga championship in 2018 and capturing a silver medal in 2019. Before that, Kivihalme spent three years playing hockey with Colorado College.

Kivihalme was originally signed to an entry-level contract by the Maple Leafs on May 7, 2019. His new deal is worth $725,000 per season at the NHL level.
