Pittsburgh Penguins captain and star Sidney Crosby left a team scrimmage early on Saturday and did not return for any of it. As per the new NHL rules, of course, no one other than the coach and team medical staff has any idea if the move was precautionary or whether Crosby has something seriously wrong going on.

According to reports, there was no obvious injury. We'll likely get a better idea of what, if anything, is wrong with the 32-year-old when or if he resumes practicing on Monday.

The Post-Gazette said Crosby left the scrimmage midway through the second of two 25-minute segments. He skated off the ice, grabbed his sticks and walked toward the locker room at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. No one specific play stuck out for a reason why Crosby may have left the ice.

Linemate Conor Sheary was asked about Crosby leaving.

"I don't even need to touch on that,” Sheary said. “I think it's just a maintenance thing. I don't think it's anything.”
