A terrible thunderstorm storm ripped through Edmonton on Thursday and Rogers Place, home of the Oilers and one of two arenas set to host games during the NHL's return, did not escape the flood waters. Videos circulating on Twitter show water pouring into the building.

The good news from all of this is that the plan to play NHL games at the arena appears to be in tact. Rogers Place itself issued a Tweet stating there was "some water damage to the terminus of Ford Hall, along with some smaller leaks in other parts of the building."

Arena staff are assessing the damage but "are confident that it will not hamper our planning and preparation and we will be ready to host the return of NHL hockey [a] as hub city. We will share more information as it becomes available."

Along with Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Rogers Place will host the play-in and playoff rounds for the NHL's 24-team Return to Play program, which begins on July 28th with exhibition games. Rogers Place is slated to host the entire Stanley Cup final once there are just two teams left.
