More details emerge on positive tests for COVID-19 at Blues' practice facility
As we reported Friday, the St. Louis Blues suspended team skates and practices at the team's facility in Maryland Heights after "multiple players" had tested positive for COVID-19. A few more details are now emerging on those positive tests.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, a total of four players and one coach tested positive. No names have been released. It appears the issue started at a bar in Clayton where several team members gathered more than a week ago. Members of the general public also were in the establishment, according to an unnamed source. A few days after that gathering, the first positive test came in.
After the five positive tests, players received a text message Friday morning telling them Phase 2 activities, which include voluntary skates at designated facilities in groups no larger than 12, would be suspended for the time being. The workouts are to resume Monday as regularly scheduled at Centene Community Ice Center.
As per the NHL's rules one COVID-19 testing, no information has been released on whether those who tested positive are ill or asymptomatic. The training facility remained open to the general public despite the positive tests.
