The Boston Bruins had little time to rest after their Winter Classic victory at Fenway Park before heading to California for a west coast road trip. In that span, they received a terrible bit of news regarding former first-round pick, forward Jake DeBrusk.

According to Frank Seravalli, DeBrusk suffered a fractured fibula sometime during the game at Fenway. Boston reporter Joe Haggerty reports that DeBrusk was seen leaving the game with a protective boot on his left leg.

After dropping his trade request in the wake of Bruce Cassidy's dismissal, DeBrusk was in the midst of his best season yet. On a 68-point pace, DeBrusk emerged as a key component of Boston's top-six forward group and was on pace to smash his previous career-best of 43, set in his rookie season.

On the bright side, Boston has been the best team in the NHL this season because of their depth. They will probably continue piling wins in DeBrusk's absence, but that doesn't make this any easier, especially for the player.
