Markus Granlund, 27, a 2011 second round draft pick of the Calgary Flames, never quite settled in the NHL. After spending parts of three seasons bouncing between the Flames roster and their AHL affiliate, he was traded to Vancouver in 2016 and settled down for a bit. He spent the next three years in Vancouver, including a career-best season posting 32 points in 69 games in 2016-17. After the Canucks did not tender his a qualifying offer last off-season, he signed a one-year deal with the Oilers for $1.3 million.
In 34 games in the last season with the Oilers, he managed a mere three goals and one assist, and earning himself multiple AHL trips. When the season ended, Granlund was with the Bakersfield Condors.
The contract Salavat Yulaev, the team which owned Granlund's draft rights in the KHL, is for two years at 70 million rubles (RUB) per year including bonuses (just under $1 million USD).
