With the league having to cancel the last round of the regular season as well as the playoffs, a significant amount of revenue has been lost. While the details are hazy on how the number of 60 million has been arrived at, the distribution itself will be an interesting proposition. In the 14-team league, the top 6 teams normally receive a first round bye, while teams 7 through 10 play for the final two spots. The two teams finishing 13th and 14th, are also involved in a playoff to avoid relegation to HockeyAllsvenskan, the second tier league. Teams finishing 11th and 12th are done at the end of the regular season, and thus will not receive any compensation for lost playoff revenue.
Teams may still end up quarreling over the precise distribution, since arena capacities differ from just over 3000 for IF Oskarshamn to over 12,000 for Frolunda and Malmo. Michael Marchal, the SHL's CEO declined to comment on the details for now.
