Vorobyov joins a perennial playoff team which also features former Leafs prospect Nikita Soshnikov and Oilers prospect Teemu Hartikainen. Salavat Yulaev has made the playoffs every year of its KHL existence and won the Gagarin Cup in 2011 with a team led by Alexander Radulov. His signing is expected to be a part of filling the massive hole left by the departure of Linus Omark, who led the team in points for the last five seasons.
Vorobyov was drafted by Philly in the fourth round in 2015. he spent the full 2017-18 season at the AHL level with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and then had brief stints with the big team over the next two seasons. When the 2019-2020 ground to a halt, Vorobyov was down in the AHL. He is a RFA and should he come back to the NHL, the Flyers still own his rights. In 35 games with the Flyers, Vorobyov put up two goals, three assists and a -5 rating.
