After a successful trial period with EV Zug in Switzerland's National League, former Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader has signed with the team for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.
Abdelkader, 35, joined EV Zug earlier this year on a contract that was set to expire on December 31st. Instead of letting him walk and become a free agent again, they decided to keep him on for the rest of the year.

"It's precisely because of goals like this that Justin is such a valuable addition to any team," said EV Zug's general manager Reto Kläy "He goes where it hurts and, in addition to his water displacement, he also brings a lot of experience with him. I'm delighted that we can count on Justin's services until the end of the season."
In six National League games for EV Zug, Abdelkader has one assist, no penalty minutes and is a plus-one, while in two Champions Hockey League games, he has one goal.
