Although the names of the players have not been released, it has been confirmed that three Lightning players and several staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The Lightning have been holding group workouts as part of Phase 2 of the Return to Play Plan. According to a statement made by the team's General Manager, Julien BriseBois, “facilities will remain temporarily shut down until we can ensure a safe environment.”

18 players from the Lightning have been participating in the Phase 2 group workouts, in groups of six. They have split up between the Amalie Arena and the TGH Sportsplex, in Brandon.

The majority of NHL players have not chosen to participate in Phase 2, which began on June 8. Phase 2 is optional and players can voluntarily participate in workouts with groups of six or fewer players. Phase 3 will be the opening of training camps and is set to begin on July 10.
