Neither of these cities come as a surprise, as they had been frontrunners for weeks now. The hub cities will host all playoff games when the league resumes play. It has not been confirmed yet, but the league reportedly hopes to begin the playoffs July 30th. It will be the latest the NHL has ever played, as the regular season had to be paused on March 12th and then cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Assuming this reporting is correct, it means other cities such as Edmonton, Toronto, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Pittsburgh, who were also considered front runners, will not be hosting any NHL games. One other thing to note is that it has been reported that teams will not be allowed to play in their own city, meaning the Vegas Golden Knights would play in Vancouver, while the Vancouver Canucks would play in Las Vegas.
