The Vancouver Canucks are apparently heading towards a full dismantling, based on the reports of multiple insiders. Frankly, it is long overdue.
The Canucks are tight against the NHL's salary cap, and they have little tangible success to show for it.
Brock Boeser and his agent - Ben Hankinson - have formally received permission to speak with other teams about a trade. Vancouver reporter Rick Dhaliwal believes there's a handful of players who will be first to go, along with Boeser.
Per Dhaliwal,
Conor Garland,
Tanner Pearson and
Tyler Myers are expected to join Boeser on the trade block, none of which are wholly surprising. Myers and Pearson both make too much money for what they provide, and Garland is simply an expensive - albeit a strong - supporting piece.
Speculation has it that
Bo Horvat will be traded as well, but moving him is not nearly as much of a priority. The bottom line for Vancouver is getting money off their books.
To Dhaliwal's report, Myers, Pearson, Garland and Boeser earn a total of $20.85 million. The Canucks fully expect to receive a sub-prime market return for Boeser, Myers, and Pearson, but they could fetch nifty hauls for Garland, Horvat and even
Thatcher Demko, if they wanted to move him. Elliotte Friedman suggested that could be a possibility, but nothing is imminent.
It appears that everyone except for
Quinn Hughes and
Elias Pettersson could be had for the right price, which is good news for any team looking to bolster their team before the trade deadline.
