Disgraced former NHLer Brendan Leipsic to continue career in Russia

Brendan Leipsic, who was recently let go of his contract with the Washington Capitals after being shamed by leaked messages in a group chat, appears to have found a new hockey home in Russia. The Russian website Allhockey,ru is reporting that the 26-year-old is preparing to sign with a so far unnnamed team in the KHL. The report states two teams are staking a claim to Leipsic and it is up to him to determine which one he'd like to sign with.

In early May, Washington placed Leipsic on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract after messages were leaked containing racist, misogynistic, and other crude remarks made by Leipsic, including things about his then teammates and other players around the NHL. Leipsic released a statement shortly after the messages started being talked about online, but ultimately it wasn't enough to erase the damage that was already done.

Leipsic, a former Nashville Predators draft pick, spent time with five different NHL organizations over the last five seasons. With the Capitals this season he had played in 61 games, putting up three goals and eleven points. He has played a total of 187 career games, notching 16 goals and 43 assists.

The leaked messages contained snippets of Leipsic calling the wife of Vancouver's Tanner Pearson fat, while he referred to former teammates Garnet Hathaway and Nic Dowd as losers.
