After becoming a free agent in the KHL this summer, it was unclear what the future held for former Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Jurco.

On Thursday, Chinese-based KHL team, Kunlun Red Star, announced that they've signed Jurco to a one-year, one-way contract for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

The 29-year-old decided in 2021, after parts of nine professional seasons in North America, that he was going to head to play in the Kontinental Hockey League, ultimately signing a one-year contract with Kazakh-based club, Barys Astana.

Jurco, a native of Kosice, had a pretty good stint with Barys Astana, putting up 11 points (three goals, five assists) in 17 games. He also added two goals in five playoff games.

With NHLers not participating at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Jurco was named to Slovakia's roster, helping them bring home their first-ever medal in ice hockey at the Winter Games, which was a bronze. In seven games at the tournament, Jurco had two points (one goal, one assist).
