This is obviously a massive shakeup from the norm, as playoffs normally begin in April and end in June. If the league were to change to a full time summer playoff schedule, it would mean that the regular season would begin every year in December or January, rather than the current start date of October.
The reasoning behind this possible decision is that the NHL likes the idea of growing the game after the NFL and NBA seasons are complete, as the MLB would be the only major sport in-season at that time. There have also been reports that the 2020-21 season may not begin until January, as the league wants to have fans in attendance from the get go. This would mean that the 2020-21 playoffs would also be played in the summer.
