The Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday morning that they have signed Czech forward Matej Chalupa to a two-year contract that will begin at the start of the 2020-21 season. The deal will pay him $925,000 annually.

Chalupa, 21, played last season with HK Hradek Kralove of the Czech Republic League. In 50 games, he posted seven goals and 24 points. This was a nice improvement off of the previous seasons 14 points in 48 games. His 17 assists tied him for first place on his team, while his 24 points were good enough for fourth.

The undrafted forward will have a shot at making the Blackhawks next year given their lack of depth on the wings, but they may elect to give him some AHL time first. Regardless, although this may not be a blockbuster signing, it gives the Hawks more options going into next season as they try to find their way back to be a top tier team once again.
