It looks like Edmonton Oilers forward Zack Kassian will be testifying in court once again in the near future. The woman charged with allegedly driving drunk while behind the wheel of his truck more than four years ago, Alison De Courcy-Ireland, is getting a second trial.

De Courcy-Ireland was supposed to learn her fate as far back as May of 2019. However, a new trial has been ordered as the original judge in the case was unable to deliver his verdict due to an undisclosed illness.

The charges stem from an incident in Montreal before the start of the 2015-16 season. Kassian had been obtained by the Montreal Canadiens in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks. A pickup truck that had been loaned to him by a dealership crashed into a tree, breaking Kassian's nose and leg. He was immediately suspended by the NHL without pay for being in violation of the league's substance abuse program. He admitted at De Courcy-Ireland's first trial that he had been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine the day of the incident. Kassian was traded to Edmonton before ever playing a game with Montreal and, at the time of the shutdown of NHL play, he was enjoying the best season of his NHL career.

De Courcy-Ireland is facing two charges: operating a motor vehicle while her ability to drive was impaired by drugs or alcohol and causing an accident while impaired that left Kassian injured. Three days have been set aside for her new trial and it is slated to begin October 27th.

According to the Montreal Gazette, it is highly likely Kassian will be called on to testify once again in the new trial. In the first one, he testified via video linkup from a location in Edmonton in order to accommodate his hockey schedule.
