The New Jersey Devils are in the search of a new head coach, but it won't be Rikard Gronborg. Gronborg's current team, the ZSC Lions, made sure of that.

When John Hynes was fired in December of 2019, the Devils put assistant coach Alain Nasreddine in charge. Now, they're looking for a permanent soulution.

According to Swiss website watson.ch, the Devils asked Gronborg's club if there was an opening for the Swede to leave the Zurich team and move to New Jersey, but were denied.

"New Jersey behaved correctly and called us first and asked if they could talk to our coach. We allowed it, but made it clear that we would not release him from his contract," said Sven Leuenberger, the ZSC Lions general manager.

The New Jersey Devils will have to continue their search for a head coach, and the Swedish three-time World championship coach will have to wait for his opportunity a little longer.
