The Minto Arena in Ottawa, a private facility which had opened earlier this with the approval of the Ontario government, has closed again. Officials with the rink say it was a request by health authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we reported here, no more than five players were permitted to be on the ice at one time and everyone in the building had to respect physical distancing rules on and off the ice.

"After a successful first day, The Minto Skating Centre will be pausing rentals at the request of authorities," Minto Skating Centre GM Scott Lawryk told TSN. "Our processes and procedures to maintain health and safety received much praise, and we are happy to work towards a clear understanding of the application of regulations as they pertain to different user groups.”

Whether any rules were broken during the opening has not been stated. Why the province gave approval for the facility to open and then asked it to close again remains somewhat vague.

According to TSN's Brent Wallace, the Minto Skating Centre says they were booked solid for 14 hours a day for two weeks. Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was one of the first people to get in a skating session on the first day, before the Minto Arena was closed again.
