The Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs, made a bit of noise on Wednesday morning as they announced that they've signed ten-year NHL veteran Danny DeKeyser to a professional try-out contract (PTO).
DeKeyser, 32, was an unrestricted free agent this summer and with not many offers coming in, he decided to sign a PTO with the Vancouver Canucks. In three appearances with the Canucks during the pre-season, DeKeyser had no points and four shots on goal.
On October 4th, a week before the season began, the Canucks released DeKeyser from his PTO, making him a free agent.
The Detroit native has spent the last ten seasons in the National Hockey League, all with the Red Wings. In 547 games, DeKeyser has 146 points (33 goals, 113 assists), 266 penalty minutes and is a plus-four.
